Backpacking over Valentine’s Day

For valentine’s day this year, MB and I went backpacking for 3 days/2 nights down on Mt. Lemmon in Tucson. We were joined by my buddy Simmons, another couple, Eve and Eric, and the new dog, Barñardo. It was quite a fun trip, and we want to go back once it warms up so we can jump in some of the pools. We found a couple great campsites, but the best was the second day where we were off-trail a little, perched on a cliff overlooking Bear Canyon towards Tucson. It’s pretty neat that you can be this close to a huge city and still feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.

Hiking with Dad

Big Tony was out here last week and between terrible rounds of golf and outstanding beer pong victories, my dad also wanted to go hiking. We went up 1,000 feet along Mormon trail at South Mountain and through the hidden valley and Fat Man’s pass. It was a lot of fun!

Apache Sitgreaves National Forest

MB and I went hiking in Apache-Sitegreaves National Forest over Labor day weekend. It was an awesome trip. You can check out my picture dump for the weekend, or take a look at the annotated trip over at Trimble Outdoors.

Inventory hike in Prescott National Forest

Last weekend MB and I joined up with a guy named Sam from the Arizona Wilderness Coalition. He was a very cool guy whose job is to drive around areas that are designated as “Roadless Area” and inventory them so people know whats going on. What a rad job.

So we volunteered to help him out. Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRAs) are areas in which no more roads can be built. Existing roads, if they are in use, can stay, but who determines if they are still in use? Sam. And us last weekend.

Who knew Arizona could be this green? Elevation was around 4500 feet and the scenery was beautiful. This camera phone picture doesn’t come close to how great it was:

I brought along a GPS phone, so you can check out the trip over at Trimble Outdoors

Hiking the Grand Canyon

MB and I went out last weekend to the Grand canyon. I brought my cell phone along and you can see the trip and pictures at the Trimble Outdoors website. We didn’t go as far as we wanted but it was still a great trip!
